Asisipho Petu

Mezzo–Soprano, Asisipho Petu was born and raised in Queenstown in the Eastern Cape. She started singing in primary school where she discovered her great passion for music. Petu joined the renowned Zwelitsha Adult Choir in King Williams Town under the baton of Dumisani Tembani.

In 2016 Asisipho auditioned successfully for the Eastern Cape Opera, working with Gwyneth Lloyd and Mkhululi Milisi. In 2018 she enrolled for a Diploma in Performing Arts at the Tshwane University of Technology, which she completed in 2020, cum laude. She is currently undertaking her Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts at the same institution, working with Thami Zungu as her vocal coach.

In 2018 she took on her first role as Marcelina in Opera Le Nozze Di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Since then she has taken part in numerous productions by the University both as a soloists and chorus member.
