Lebogang Polori
LLebogang Polori (coloratura mezzo-soprano) is from Klerksdorp. She is a bona fide student at the School of Music of the North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus). She majors in Applied Vocal Studies and will complete the Diploma in Music under the tutelage of prof. Santisa Viljoen in June 2020.
In 2017 Lebogang was a soloist in an opera gala that was performed at Aardklop. This gala was also repeated at the Klein Karoo Kunstefees in 2018. In the same year, Lebogang performed as one of the soloists with the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra in the Brooklyn Theatre, under the baton of Adam Szmidt.
In October 2018 she was a soloist in an Aardklop production featuring music by Handel. Later that year Lebogang was awarded a bursary for her performance during the annual bursary competition.
In 2019 she was one of the performers who sang the small ensembles in the production of Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra in the Brooklyn Theatre. She has had masterclasses with Kamal Khan, Samantha Miles, Barbara Hill-Moore, Bo Rosenkull, Kobie van Rensburg and Dominic Wheeler. In July 2019 Lebogang won the grand prize in the opera category of the Voices of South Africa International Opera Singing Competition. She was also the runner-up in the Lieder category in this same competition. In August 2019 she won the prestigious national Mimi Coertse Bursary Competition.
In 2020 Lebogang won the Mezzo-soprano category of the Online Voices of South Africa International Opera Singing Competition.
