Johannesburg Opera presents The power of a Woman's voice.

South Africa celebrates National Women's Day on 09 August. The day commemorates the 1956 march of approximately 20,000 women to the Union Buildings in Pretoria. To celebrate this special day and Women's Month, Johannesburg Opera present The power of a Woman's voice in opera and classical music.

We showcase amazing women performers - Khayakazi Madlala, Yolisa Ngwexana (sopranos), and Asisipho Petu (mezzo-soprano), accompanied by Annelien Bell on piano.

They will lift your spirit, inspire you and entertain you with many of your favourite opera arias and ensembles such as Ebben... Ne andro lontana, Seguidilla, I feel pretty, Sull'aria and Flower duet. Join and support Johannesburg Opera as we close the women's month in style at the Northwards House.

A morning where patrons and guests can indulge in the soothing sounds of the Three Tenors with a programme consisting of musicals, opera and Neopolitan songs. The Three Tenors will create their arrangements of beautiful standards from these musicals, including Some enchanted evening and Maria; Neopolitan songs such as Parlami d'Amore and Santa lucia luntana; and opera arias such as Nessun dorma and La donna e mobile.

Johannesburg Opera created a programme that celebrates the wonderful music that were written for and sometimes just used in the "flicks" and musical numbers such as Gabriella's Song from As it is in Heaven, Remember from Troy and Let the river run from Working Girl will be heard, not forgetting some of the golden oldies, such as Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffany's and New York, New York from New York, New York.

Performing this morning will be the talented Khayakazi Madlala (soprano) and Phenye Modiane (tenor) who are accompanied by the talented Samantha Riedel.

Johannesburg Opera will once again bring you the not-to-be-missed event on the social and entertainment calendar. The Valentine's Concert is in celebration of the one day we put our love on display, Valentine's Day. It's the day for romance, whether you hate it or love it; this is still the day that Cupid will be out and about enchanting our hearts and magically transforming earth into heaven.

The exciting programme will be filled with romantic excerpts from operas, pop-opera, musicals and Neopolitan songs which match the romantic mood of Valentine's Day and will include: Some enchanted evening; Tornami a dirche m'ami; O mio babbino caro; Parlami d'amore and Perfect symphony to name but a few.

Johannesburg Opera in partnership with the Tin Town Theatre brings you the annual Christmas Concert to usher in the Festive Season with beautiful melodies you have come to love over the years.

This special concert for the whole family will include your favourites such as O come all ye faithful, O holy night, Joy to the world, Mary's boy child and Feliz navidad just to name a few.

In this programme, you will be entertained by Johannesburg Opera Ensemble which includes, Khayakazi Madlala and Marieke de Koker (sopranos), Brenda Thulo and Monica Mhangwana (mezzo-sopranos), Thabiso Masemene and Tebogo Makgwe (tenors), and Solly Motaung and Charles Shikwambana (baritones), accompanied by Paul Ferreira on piano and Andrew Duncan on organ.

In the spirit of giving, Johannesburg Opera requests patrons to bring an unwrapped gift for children from new-born to 18 years old, between the value of R150 - R250. These gifts will be donated to a children's home of Johannesburg Opera's choice.

Come and celebrate with Johannesburg Opera and mother-and-daughter team, Tessa and La-la. Johannesburg Opera feel blessed and honoured to be collaborating with Ristorante La Trinita in 2020 to bring the audience monthly Dinner Concerts. Johannesburg Opera will present a Celebration of Neapolitan songs. The Neapolitan song became a formal institution in the 1830s due to a song writing competition. The music was popularized abroad by Enrico Caruso. Johannesburg Opera is grateful for the support of Tessa and La-La, who have opened their home/restaurant for a celebration of opera music and art. The audience will be entertained with some their favourite Neapolitan songs such as O sole mio, Santa Lucia luntana, Core 'ngrato, Mattinata and Non ti scordar di me, to name a few.

On 01 March 2020, Ristorante La Trinita celebrates 22 years and has served top quality Italian food, merging the specialities of three cities, Bologna, Napoli and Perugia, at its finest. With a simple formula of QUALITY, they offer an unrivalled menu of delectable dishes that reflect Italy's most traditional elements of food and culinary style. La Trinita is an award-winning restaurant. Tessa and La-la from Ristorante La Trinita will have an exciting menu ready for the evening. La Trinita has a vast a la carte menu available and delectable wines on sale.

Owners Tessa and La-la donate all the profits generated from this evening to Johannesburg Opera and any further support will be welcomed and appreciated. Performing on the night will be the talented Founder and Managing Director of Johannesburg Opera, Phenye Modiane (tenor). He will be accompanied by a Japanese pianist Azuna Umeo.

Date: This event has been cancelled due to the restrictions put in place by the South African Government.
